Local Leaders Break Ground For New Community Center

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Local leaders broke ground Friday for a new community building in Miami’s West End Park.

City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, Commissioner Francis Suarez and Miami-Dade County Commission Chairwoman Rebeca Sosa attended the ground breaking event which started at 10:00 a.m.

In order for the new building to be built, crews have to demolish the existing recreation building.

In it’s place will be a new 10, 800 square foot building and courtyard.

The new building will have a large multipurpose room, office, male and female restrooms, break room, fitness center, computer room, classrooms and storage.

There will also be walkways constructed to connect the new building to an existing pool facility, playground and the entrance of the park.

Th project which is funded by Miami-Dade County General Obligation Bonds and Homeland Defense Bonds has an estimated cost of a little more than $2.2 million.

The construction is expected to be done within 300 calendar days.
