MIAMI (CBSMiami) – There may be some hope for ride-for-hire companies, like Lyft and UberX, in South Florida.
The Miami-Dade County Commission gave initial approval Tuesday that would legalize the ride-for-hire companies, according to CBS4 news partners the Miami Herald.
Lyft and UberX have been operating in violation of the local regulations that legislates taxicab and limousine services for more than a month.
Commissioner Esteban “Steve” Bovo’s legislation, the paper reports, would authorize the companies under a new section of county regulations.
According to the paper, the board voted 10-2 to move Bovo’s ordinance forward. Commissioners Jose “Pepe” Diaz and Dennis Moss voted against, and Commissioner Sally Heyman was absent.
